My MacProblem and your needed MacVote.

Well, I'm in a minor dilemma.
I have the not so easy decision of choosing between a PC or keeping my mac. Why would I get rid of a perfectly good mac laptop? Because my future husband is in great need of a computer and wants a mac. The problem is that macs are twice the price of a quality PC laptop these days. Aaron needs a mac to do some of the creative and artistic things that he is into and wants to further. Whereas I, well, I just like macs. But we don't have the cash to buy a mac for Aaron right now and I have been running into problems lately with compatibility issues between my mac and my office-mates' computers. I often have to work on projects, edit videos, and hook up to systems that are not mac friendly.

Here's where you come in. Do I give Aaron my laptop and have him help me out with buying an HP laptop for half the price, or do I put a white-knuckle grip on my Apple and tell him to fin for himself and we'll get him one when we win the lottery? Mac, or PC?
Please vote soon so I can count the ballots and decide before the end of the year. Every vote counts and please offer your opinion as to why or why not. Thanks!

Aaron needs to find a way to get his own Mac without asking you to give yours up!

As a recent convert to Macs, I want to tell you to keep your mac. As a wife of sixteen years, I want to tell you to learn to compromise. Tough call. I say, help him to buy a re-vamped Mac, you can save up to 40% and they have warranties. I know they are available at the website. Good luck honey and God bless.

I was gonna say the same thing. If you look for a refurbished Mac on the apple site you might not end up spending much more than an HP anyway. And even quality HPs aren't the same as Macs...

I say give him the Mac and get a PC that will function with the others. With Windows the learning curve isn't that great. This is for the greater good all around.

Even on the mission field "stuff" can get in the way of your true purpose. Guard closely where your treasures lay.

Hmmm...now this is a tough response knowing that I want a Mac but also want Zoe to keep her Mac also...So if you're out there and are willing to donate your Mac to us :) You'll make us the 1st "Das" Apple family in the world...now thats a good cause!

Ok...I think the idea of the refurbished mac is the best one becauase:
A. Although you may have some incompatible moments with your mac, you still have programs on there that that you use often that you will not find on a PC.
B. You have EVERYTHING on your mac and it will be really difficult to try to switch ALL of your personal files onto a PC, and you may lose a lot of info in the process due to incompatability.
C. If you can get the refurbished mac then you can both have iChat and can see each other all the time! :)

Here's one for $849

Also, as Aaron is kinda stationary and he currently has that old laptop if needed, he could get a desktop that still has all the perks he wants graphically just $699!

Love you!

Wow. Um. My opinion is that if it really will be more useful for you at work, you should definitely get a PC and let Aaron use the Mac. I absolutely believe without one shred of doubt that Aaron would do the same for you. Being selfless and giving is an important part of a healthy relationship.

You know my 2 Cents - PC all the way! And as I have both a PC and a Mac (a MacBook Pro I may add), that's saying something

I say give Aaron your old Mac and buy yourself a new one when you're home for Christmas. You can get them brand new on ebay and save $500-600 over what you'll pay at the Mac Store (that's what I did). On the new Mac you can use the program that already comes on it to partition your hard drive to have both Windows and Mac operating systems on the same machine. Lots of Mac folks do that when they have Windows at work, but prefer to use the Mac system for their personal use. It's a legitimate and important business expense, so it's tax deductible, etc. I know the PC's are cheaper, but you'll have endless problems with the new Vista system being compatible with the older Windows system that your office uses - all the software will not work together even though it's MicroSoft. Stick with Mac - no virus headaches, no Vista headaches, total international service agreements, and much more. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Sweet Zoey . . . Hmmm ... I'm not an experienced Mac user. I've only become one over the last year since I've become a teacher and our district provides each of us with a MacBook. I like it. But I've always been a PC user before. Reading these other comments, though, it sounds like you should find a way for both you and Aaron to have a Mac. Give him yours and find a way to buy a cheap one for yourself. OR, keep yours and help Aaron find a refurbished one or a new one on eBay for cheaper. Whatever works best to meet both your immediate needs for a computer. You're definitely working your way into the "it's not yours, it's not mine, it's all OURS" way of life, so ya gotta work together on this. :-) Mac is obviously your personal preference, and whichever one of you ends up with a new one will probably have it for a long time. I guess with the Mac vs. PC argument you have to figure out just how important it is to have compatibility with your team (beyond what you can get with Mac versions of Windows applications, like Word for Mac, etc.). Just my thoughts. Either way, I love you and I'm proud of you.
